HT is classified in the world by the United nations through the Palermo Protocol as


Trafficking in persons is defined in article 3 (a) of the United Nations (Palermo) Protocol as: the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harbouring or receipt of persons by means of the threat or the use of force or other forms of coercion, or abduction, of fraud, of deception, of the abuse of power or of a position of vulnerability or of the giving or receiving of payments or benefits to achieve the consent of a person having control over another person for the purpose of exploitation.


Exploitation shall include, at a minimum, the exploitation or the prostitution of others or other forms of sexual exploitation, forced labour or services, slavery or practices similar to slavery, servitude or the removal of organs. The protocol also includes a specific definition of trafficking in children.


Trafficking in children shall mean the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harbouring or receipt of a child for exploitation. Exploitation shall include, at a minimum, the exploitation of the prostitution of others or other forms of SEXUAL EXPLOITATION, FORCED LABOUR or services, slavery or practices similar to slavery, servitude or the removal of organs.


People forced or coerced to work in:

  • sweatshops
  • fields or farms
  • hotels
  • fisheries
  • resteraunts
  • prostitution
  • brothels
  • beg or peddle
  • domestic labourers
  • janitors, or
  • constructions workers
  • exotic dancing and pornography
  • forced marraige, etc.
